Monte Carlo on Fire – Breaking News
“LAS VEGAS – All guests were evacuated from the 32-story Monte Carlo Resort and Casino after a three-alarm fire broke out on the roof Friday, closing part of the Las Vegas Strip and snarling traffic as tourists flocked in for the weekend.
Live television video showed flames and plumes of black smoke spreading across the roof line from the center section of the 90,000-square-foot resort, which is home to more than 3,000 guest rooms and 256 luxury suites, including penthouse units on the flaming top floors, NBC affiliate KVBC reported.
Ambulances were sent to the scene, but there were no immediate reports of injuries, the station reported.
Officer Bill Cassell, a Las Vegas police spokesman, told MSNBC that Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters were slowed by the need to hand-carry fire hoses up the stairs from ground level because the fire was out of reach of ladders. Some firefighters could be seen on the roof, where the flames appeared to progressing to lower floors.
The fire was reported just before 11 a.m. (2 p.m. ET). Guests at the hotel, famed for its Renaissance statues and cascading fountains, were evacuated to the nearby Bellagio and New York, New York hotel-casinos.
MGM Mirage, the casino’s owner, had no immediate information about the blaze.” – MSNBC.com

The Fire was burning at around 2600F and it would be a bigger issue to hover a helicopter over that heat, the smoke could choke the turbine causing the helicopter to lose power, and also the rotors on helicopters are made of Fiberglass to promote flexing from an issue called coning and the blades can disintegrate at 720F+. CCFD and LVFD did a great Job eitherway.

The Fire Was Caused By Welders Welding On The Roof. The Foam Used To Make The Hotel Look Nice Is Very Flammable And That Helped The Fire Burn Faster

That would require ’share holder’ vote, approval and a substantial write down to the bottom line for 08, however in this case, Catastrophic Insurance would kick in, expense factor minimized, and no long vote process required. Clark County officals may deem the building unfit to occupy due to the water structual damage. There is current news showing the city is treating the reopening as a New Building. All Inspections must be done and signed off. I make the reopening “Line”

I don’t think so. If they wanted to get rid of ther Monte Carlo they had imploded it a year ago when they began constructing the CityCenter that is next to it.

Whats Up is that the fire dep is Just blocks away..and it took over a hour to just get there and start to put water on it (What to do is take a helicopter with bags full of water then have them go to the top and dump them……it took over a hour for the fire dep to start so put water on it but realy for the helicopters to do it it would have taken less than 1/2 an Hour to Put out
