How to scan oversize images using a flatbed scanner?

I’d like to find a way of scanning very large art canvas like a drum scanner would.
If only there was a way of projecting an image onto the scanner itself or maybe someone has found another method…
Stitching together multi scans is another idea.

How do I format my scanner to scan photos at their actual size?

You can use a photo stitching software but that may be time consuming. You can always bring it to the scanning outsourcer and they can scan it with a large format scanner.
