make sure you ruff up the finish with light grit sandpaper like 220G or steel wool so that the paint will have something to grab on to. Kryon makes a special paint that is for plastic. It is designed to bond to very smooth surfaces. You can also try a primer after you sand down the original finish. Give the primer another sanding and your final finish should be real smooth.
